IPSY Glam Bag – December 2016

Ipsy is an online beauty subscription where you sample five different products (e.g. mascara, eyeshadows, etc.) mailed in a collectible bag. There’s a lovely theme each month and products you receive are personalized according to your answers in a quiz, which is taken at the beginning of the subscription.

Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday ❤

For the month of December, Ipsy encourages you to go out and make the most of the night with the theme “Carpe P.M.” Smokey eye looks, bold liner, and glitter everywhere are all part of seizing the night, so this month’s chic glam bag includes products meant for the occasion. From jewel-toned eyeshadows to post-adventuring skincare, Ipsy has a wide selection of beauty necessities for (a night out!) this time of the year.glam-bag-december-2016

The products I received December 2016:

  1. Be Matte Blush (in Melon, Blackberry, and Guava) by City Color Cosmetics  I appreciate how this cheek palette is cruelty-free and has three different shades to choose from. Each blush swatched well and felt soft. Blackberry, the middle shade, is a bit out of my comfort zone; however, I’ll try mixing it with the other shade(s) and experiment.
  2. Aqua Gel Masque by Privai – This masque, which is cruelty-free and paraben-free, was formulated to reduce redness and quench dry skin. Since the weather has been colder here, I feel that this will come in handy. It can be used up to three times a week and plan to try it soon.
  3. Deluxe Maracuja Oil by Tarte Cosmetics – The oil is quite the multitasker… It can be used to nourish skin, tame hair, and as cuticle care. The bottle may seem small, but a little product may go a long way. I like the design of the bottle, especially since comes with a built-in dropper!
  4. Prismatic Shadow (in Jaded) by NYX Professional Makeup – I don’t think I have a shadow like this in my collection. This new addition is great since the eyeshadow’s formula is soft and has silver toned reflects. I worry that with oily eyelids it won’t hold up during a night out though (more info to come).
  5. Beauty Blending Sponge by MintPear – I was most excited for this beauty blending sponge because it is a product I have never received in a beauty subscription service; it was something different and unexpected. The creators claim the sponge won’t soak up product while creating a flawless complexion. I’ll have to put it to the test and compare it with other sponges on the market.

Sincerely, Ingrid Nicole

Kiko Milano Haul – PART ONE

Hello everyone! Happy Friday ❤

I traveled to Italy recently and shared some of my favorite places I visited in last week’s post (view “A Week In Rome” here!). While in Rome, I did a bit of shopping and came across a Kiko Milano store. Kiko Milano is an Italian cosmetics brand that strives to develop quality makeup and skin care. I’ve heard wonderful things about this brand and since I don’t have a Kiko store near me back home, I splurged on some of their bestsellers and products that stood out to me.

Kiko Milano Haul

The first mascara I picked up was the Extra Sculpt Volume Mascara, a highly recommended  mascara by YouTuber/Beauty Guru Kathleen Lights. Since summer is around the corner, I decided to pick up this same mascara with a waterproof formula. The packaging of both mascaras are nearly identical, but the Extra Sculpt Waterproof Mascara has a lovely blue streak on it.

Kiko Milano Extra Sculpt

Eye Base & Eyeliner

I finished the eye primer I had by Elizabeth Mott, so I decided to try out Kiko’s Eye Base Primer. This primer is more affordable, promises to make eyeshadows last longer, and provide a better color pay-off. I picked up the Deep Black Eye Marker because I wanted a liquid eyeliner with a thicker tip to fill in bold winged cat eyes.

Kiko Milano Eye Base and Liner

Nail Polishes

The Kiko Milano store I went to had a wide selection of nail polishes. The first nail polish I picked up was Candy Sprinkles Nail Lacquer (20), which I feel can be worn over other polishes or on its own. The second nail polish I got was Frozen Smoothies Nail Lacquer (10), an off white polish with a hint of light blue/gray.

Have you tried any Kiko Milano products? Any recommendations?

10 Things You Should Bring To Prom (or any formal event!)

Exactly one year ago, I attended my senior prom with my very best friend. Since the theme was “Enchanted Forest,” inspiration for my prom look came from A) the TV show Once Upon A Time and B) almost every Disney princess movie I had ever seen. Overall, my prom was the kind that you see in the movies. I was surrounded by wonderful people and danced the night away in a beautiful location. Not many people can say that, so I feel fortunate to have such a lovely memory. In honor of my prom, I decided to share today 10 Things You Should Bring To Prom (or any formal event really), which can come in handy if you experience any mishaps and unforeseen events.

10 Things You Must Bring To Prom

1) Beauty essentials (for touch-ups)

Since we all have different skin types and beauty routines, it’s difficult to name a universal beauty product that will work for us all. So, for beauty essentials I suggest bringing the makeup products you may need to use for touch-ups later in the day. For example, it may be your signature red lipstick or simply eyelash glue for your glamorous lashes.

2) Bobby Pins

Bobby pins are the small clips I buy in bulk but one by one magically disappear without a trace. These little hair clips come in handy though, keeping any hairstyle in place. Some stores sell bobby pins in a travel size container, so they don’t run around inside your purse/clutch. You can also pack other types of hair clips and hair ties for your event.

3) Cash

Having cash to spend may be a given, but I feel it’s necessary to mention. Better safe than sorry, right? Maybe you and your people want to take professional pictures at prom (since your school hired a photographer) OR you guys are feeling munchies after the dance is over. You can do those things now because I reminded you to bring money, your welcome.

4) Comfortable Shoes

Chances are you’re going to be tired after all the standing, walking, and/or dancing. Whether you’re in heels or dress shoes, bring along some comfortable shoes. I know there are some flats that you can fold and store in your purse. It might be worth checking out. You also have the option of placing comfy shoes in your car.

5) Gum or mints

We all like a fresh minty breath, so packing gum or mints may be a good idea.

6) Lip balm

Dry, chapped lips are the worst. If you already carry around your favorite lip moisturizer, kudos to you my friend. Don’t forget to bring lip balm to prom, or any event for that matter, so you don’t have to experience the pain that can comes from chapped lips.

7) Oil blotting Sheets

Since my t-zone is more on the oily side, I make sure to carry blotting sheets wherever I go. When you’re out and about, specifically dancing away at prom, you may get sweaty and run your makeup off. I highly recommend taking some blotting sheets to keep oil at bay and maintain that flawless complexion.

8) Portable phone charger

During prom, there are lots of pictures taken by both parents and friends. You may also take pictures from your phone and have them posted on social media that same night. In order to do so, keep your battery power high with a portable phone charger.

9) Safety pins

I have heard so many prom wardrobe malfunctions stories, such as zippers breaking and gowns tearing. Safety pins will be your best friend in these situations,  so packing a few for prom and other events can save you and/or a friend.

10) Travel-sized deodorant

I feel that no one can go wrong with packing a travel-sized deodorant wherever they go. Just remember to tightly seal the product so it doesn’t open and possibly stain something. The purpose of taking deodorant to events is to smell nice, but this can be accomplished with perfume or cologne. So, pack whatever you like the most my friend.

Sincerely, Ingrid Nicole

P.S. I post every Friday (well I try to! lol).

Wet ‘n Wild Beauty | Hits or Misses

Hello everyone! Happy Friday ❤

With temperatures slowly rising here in Southern California (and summer around the corner!), I felt that my go-to makeup routine needed some updating. Summer, for me, tends to be the ideal time for more natural, glowy looks. Wet ‘n Wildan affordable cruelty-free makeup brand, released several new products in their spring/summer collection and also reformulated some of their original products. I picked up a few of their goodies from my local drugstore and after trying them out for a couple of weeks, I’m here to share if they’re hits or misses!

Wet 'n Wild Beauty | Alive & Living

Au Naturel EyeShadow Palette – Bare Necessities 753A

I picked up this eyeshadow palette mainly because it was under five (or six?) dollars. I didn’t swatch it at the store or anything, but the colors were pretty enough to make it into my shopping basket. The packaging is sleek and the palette includes a double-sided eyeshadow applicator inside (the kind that doesn’t last very long though). There are 10 shadows in total, eight of which are shimmery. There are two brown toned mattes shades and each shade is labelled as a number (from left to right). These shadows are pretty pigmented, blend fairly very well, but are more powdery than buttery.

Photo Focus Setting Spray

WetnWild Photo Focus Setting Spray

According to the Wet ‘n Wild website, this makeup setting spray claims to be a “weightless formula” that will “extend makeup wear.” I used this spray multiple times, sometimes switching out products to test out the longevity, and must agree that this product does what it says it will. The spray nozzle releases product evenly and the formula doesn’t make your face feel sticky or dry. For less than five dollars, your makeup will last most of the day with this setting spray (it’s amazing!).

MegaGlo Illuminating Palette – Catwalk Pink 320

I’m all for that twinkling highlighted skin, especially during the spring and summer. This Illuminating Palette reminded me of Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips and since it’s more affordable, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, there isn’t much color payoff with this product, even with the new formula. It was much to sheer to me and I found it wasn’t very visible on the skin. I tried mixing all the shades together but it still wasn’t enough to make a noticeable difference.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I feel that Wet ‘n Wild is a promising brand that has some great products. I was pleasantly surprised by the Au Naturel Eyeshadow palette in Bare Necessities 753A and think the colors are absolutely lovely. It’s definitely a hit. Another product that I particularly enjoy (more like love!) is the Photo Focus Setting Spray. Seriously, track it down and try it. It’s a hit for me! Lastly, the MegaGlo Illuminating palette didn’t do much for me so it’s a miss in my book, but maybe it could work for you.

What Wet ‘n Wild products have you tried? Any recommendations?

Sincerely, Ingrid Nicole

IPSY Bag | April 2016

IPSY | April 2016 Glam Bag

Ipsy is an online beauty subscription where you sample five different products (mascara, eyeshadows, etc.) mailed in a collectible bag. There’s a lovely theme each month and the products you receive are personalized according to your answers in a quiz, which is taken at the beginning of the subscription.

Hello everyone! Happy Saturday ❤

Ingrid, where have you been?! I know, I know. I haven’t posted in what feels like an eternity, but fear not my friend. I’m back now with an exciting ipsy bag to share and will be posting every Friday from here on out!

This month’s theme is “The Dreamers” and according to the ipsy website, this glam bag is meant to “create looks that celebrate every side of your unique beauty-from natural and understated to high fashion and ultra-glam.” As you can see below, the glam bag I received has warm tones on the front and cool tones on the back. I noticed the glam bags all have a similar tie-dye design, but there’s slight variations. For example, my lovely mother received her glam bag and it’s completely cool toned on both sides. So, if you received a glam bag from ipsy this month, chances are it’s unique for you.

The products I received April 2016:

  1. C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush by Crown Brush – You should know, I’m a total sucker for quality brushes. Since the two brushes I’ve received from ipsy work great, I was excited to try out this new one [the C427 Crown Brush]. The bristles on the brush serve their purpose for blush (and highlight) application, but the grip on the handle feels odd when in use.
  2. Bright Eyes Eye Enhancing Eyeliner by Skinn Cosmetics – I actually do not own a nude eyeliner, so it was a real treat to find this one in April’s glam bag. The eyeliner is retractable, something I prefer for liners, and it glides on the waterline fairly well. Sadly, I feel the longevity of the product isn’t ideal, lasting only a couple of hours.
  3. LipSurgence lip crème (in Wonder) by Tarte Cosmetics – First off, the shade is absolutely lovely for the spring and summer. Kudos to Tarte for creating this color! The lip crayon is very creamy, glides on the lips beautifully, and lasts for a few hours. There is a bit of transfer with this lippy, but it works well as a cheek stain.
  4. NOMAD x Marrakesh Intense Eyeshadow (in Desert Sands) by Nomad Cosmetics – I honestly wasn’t expecting from this product, because I’ve had terrible luck with glittery eyeshadows in the past. I kept an open mind though and was pleasantly impressed. The color is more on the gold side and the eyeshadow has a great color-payoff.
  5. Argan Oil Extra Deep Hair Care Cream by Novex – (not displayed) The Argan Oil Hair Care Cream comes in a small jar-like container with a reasonable amount of product. The smell was more too prominent for my taste and I found it didn’t do much for my hair. It claims to help with frizz and improve shine, so I’ll continue to try it out and keep you updated.

February Favorites 2016 – Beauty

Hello everyone! Happy Monday ❤

Today, I’m sharing beauty products I’ve come to love in the month of February. Some of these products are old favorites and others can be best described as new discoveries. After placing my February favorites into four little categories (skincare, hair, makeup, and tools), I realized that I didn’t have any nail related favorites this month. I’m currently loving pinky nude tones though and found some great nail inspiration on Pinterest for March.

Feb Fav

It has been getting much warmer here in California, so I had to make some minor adjustments to my skincare routine. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water is an oil-free cleanser that removes dirt, oil, and makeup. This cleansing water is fragrance-free and I find that it doesn’t over-dry my skin. The drawback of this product is you sometimes need to use MANY facial cotton pads to remove stubborn make-up, which can make the process very tiresome. It’s still a favorite product though because cleaning up any mascara or eyeshadow mishaps with q-tips can be done effortlessly.

Since there has been less cloudy rainy days and more sunshine, I was in search for a moisturizer with SPF and rediscovered the Clear Start Oil Clearing Matte Moisturizer (an old favorite!). The formula is hydrating, oily skin friendly, and provides SPF 15 without the strong sunscreen scent. It helps with shine control and has become my go-to daily moisturizer. My t-zone is primarily the area where I get oily so I use Daiso Japan Oil Blotting Paper, which is made from traditional Japanese “Mino-Washi” (paper) that contains natural clay to gently absorb excess oil. There’s 100 blotting papers in each package and it’s less than two dollars. The Daiso Japan store doesn’t seem to carry it online, so it might be difficult to get your hands on the product if you don’t have a site near you.

My absolute favorite hair product that I’ve used since February is the Pantene Advanced Care Conditioner. This conditioner has a lovely fragrance and leaves my hair incredibly soft. I highly recommend this product if you’re looking for something that moistures, strengths, and color protects your hair.

As for makeup, I’ve been reaching for Chocolate Bon Bons Eye Shadow Palette by Too Faced Cosmetics because of the rich pigmentation and color selection. I find the shadows in this palette blend beautiful, so you can pretty much create any look with it easily. My favorite foundation currently is Dream Velvet by Maybelline (even though the shade I picked up wasn’t an exact color match… oops). It comes out of the bottle slightly moussey in texture but the formula is lightweight and doesn’t just sit on the surface of the skin. For my brows, I love using Universal Eyebrow Pencil by OFRA Cosmetics. I received it in my January IPSY glam bag and adored the shade, quality, and formula of the brow pencil. I tend to rotate face primers but one that has stuck out to me in February is the Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser by Maybelline. The last makeup product, the Hello Lashes 5-in-1 Mascara by IT Cosmetics, is only a sample size (which I also received from my IPSY glam bag) but makes my lashes thicker and longer.

I finally caved and purchased the Original Beauty Bender. It is on the pricier side but I got a great deal with Birchbox and received many other goodies along with it. I love the airbrushed finish it provides and I feel that in makes all the difference when I apply any foundation. Another beauty tool I’ve come to love is the super affordable Eye Crease Brush by e.l.f. Cosmetics. The brush comes in handy when you want to blend and contour corners of your eyes (for only $1!). I also use the Blush Brush from the e.l.f. Studio line, which is vegan friendly and a slightly more durable brush.

Sincerely, Ingrid Nicole

Pretty in #ipsypink

Ipsy is an online beauty subscription where you sample five different products (mascara, eyeshadows, etc.) mailed in a collectible bag. There’s a lovely theme each month and the products you receive are personalized according to your answers in a quiz, which is taken at the beginning of the subscription.

Hello everyone! Happy Monday!

I received my February Ipsy glam bag and the theme “Pretty in #IpsyPink” this month is my favorite by far. It’s completely inspired by the 80s romcom Pretty in Pink movie! (If you have the time, please watch the movie… It’s a classic.) The collectible glam bag for February has a textured design on front, which reminded my younger brother of Minecraft (thus making the bag cool to him lol), and a shiny hot pink backside. I love the look of the bag and have been using it ever since it arrived. The products mailed to me this time ranged from hair oil mist to nail polish, so a good mix and change from last months Ipsy bag.

The products I received February 2016:

  1. Vitamin B5 Weightless Oil Mist by OGX
  2. Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Wand by Josie Maran Cosmetics
  3. Sparkling Lip Gloss (Pink Sequin) by VINTAGE Jessica Liebeskind
  4. Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer (Neutral Medium) by IT Cosmetics
  5. Pink Gel Coat by Perfect Formula
